Message:

Phil's funerals service, which I was able to watch online this afternoon, was a wonderful credit to his memory. Phil's contribution to football in general and Fulham in particular was outstanding.

His love, dedication and honesty shone through in the tributes paid to him this afternoon. The football family is poorer for Phil's passing but so much richer for his contribution.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all Phil's family and friends at this sad time.

Christmas Football Camp 1.JPG

Name:

Rupert & Monte Noble

How did you know Phil?

Phil taught and mentored both Rupert and Monte since 2017

Message:

We were introduced to Phil 5 years ago. Rupert was 4 years old and went to his first ever camp. We have the funniest video clip, which we still makes us laugh..... Rupert and another boy start fighting and all you can hear is Phil shouting "Rupert! Rupert! Rupert!" before running over and splitting the boys up.

Monte was keen to be part of the football fun and began his 'Phil Walker' career at aged 3. Soon after this Monte received his first trophy and the obsession with both Phil's football and his bag of many trophies began! Monte loves to count the number of trophies which Phil gave him and we just wonder, over the years, how many of these were given out.... a small lorry load at least!

We were so, so sad, shocked and upset to hear the news. Even now it doesn't feel quite true. Phil is an absolute legend. A massive part of this community. Through rain, snow, covid there has always been one constant and that is Phil Walker. Our boys have been so fortunate to have been to so many training sessions and camps over the years (even Christmas 2021 when there was nothing else running... Phil's camp was!).

Phil will be missed by so many families, players and Wimbledon Park. Irreplaceable, but his memory will live on through his passion of football (and trophies!).

Our thoughts are with his family. Stephen, Kate, Rupert & Monte x

We’re so sorry to hear of Phil’s death. Love to Beau, the rest of the family & everyone who knew him.

Joe has been very lucky to know and love Phil for 10 years. He was just 3 1/2 when he saw him coaching kids on Wimbledon Park. He got a flyer from him and insisted on carrying it all the way home to me so I would sign him up. He lost the flyer (of course) but talked about ‘the football man in the park’ all the way through dinner, bath time and the next day, until I found Phil and we joined his classes. Phil was always patient and kind with Joe and all the kids that trained with him. He was generous with his time with us parents too - full of praise and encouragement for whatever level of skill our little ones had. He will be so missed! We cried for your loss, our loss & the loss for the children in SW London. Our whole family consider ourselves lucky to have known him and want to help to keep his football legacy and club/classes going.

He coached my son, Bode Hills

Message:

I really wanted to say that Phil touched our family in a way I never expected. Phil pulled me aside, one day, to tell me that Bode "was really going to surprise people one day". I asked Phil to tell Bode that because Bode really lacks confidence in his football abilities. So he did and the next day presented him with a trophy with Bode's name engraved on it. That confidence Phil had in Bode means soooo much to us all.

Unfortunately, Bode doesn't believe it as much as I do, but it's helped me try to build Bode's confidence. I know nothing about football, but I know that if Phil believed in Bode, I can tell Bode to believe in himself and his abilities with true conviction. I've spoken with many parents of Phil Walker footballers who feel such sadness that he's not here with us anymore.

His loss is felt very deeply in our community and I can't help but tear up when I write this.

As Bode wrote, "Best wishes for his life in heaven".

Phil was an incredible generous and wonderful man. His gentle sense of humour, his love of children and football made him utterly unique. I wonder how many children he encouraged and taught for all these years?? How many lives did he inspire?? I will never be able to go into Wimbledon Park again without thinking of him- in the pouring rain or the blistering sunshine, it made no odds to Phil.

I believe my son had a special understanding with Phil. Not much was said, just quiet knowledgeable encouragement and this approach was just what was needed. He could also be very straight talking. Phil was a beautiful soul and he will always be remembered loved and cherished in our house.

Message:

Phil was my son’s first football coach when we lived in Southfields. I saw Phil coaching in the park and immediately saw how all the children, no matter what age, listened and learned from him. What struck me the most, when I watched Phil’s sessions, was that I genuinely could not work out who had the most fun, the children or Phil! Phil loved coaching them and they loved being coached by him. It was an absolute joy to watch.

My son is now 11 but started with Phil at 4 years old, the grounding and skills that Phil helped him develop has led him to play in a number of great teams. I cannot thank Phil enough and our whole family is so saddened by the tragic news that he is no longer with us.

Phil was an amazing coach who wanted everyone at his football club to become the best footballer they could be.

No matter the weather he would run his training sessions. He helped me get into Fulham which was my dream come true. Phil was kind and alway gave little bits of advice which really changed people's footballing ability.

During lockdown he gave me covid-safe goalkeeper sessions and he was always smiling, which really boosted my mood during a sad period.

Phil Walker… one of life’s GOATs … he was without doubt the ultimate coach.

His infectious love of the game and his desire to engage with every young player, gave them so much self confidence alongside a locker bursting full of skills.

Few coaches can say they’ve achieved this for so many. My boys, especially Crispin, spent hours with him on Wimbledon Park laughing, playing, learning and developing amazing skills which lead him personally into the Academy system.

Phil meant so much to me and my whole family. We live on Elsenham Street and I used to see him many mornings. He was always so positive and kind. He was always interested in what I was doing, so encouraging. Phil always had something good to say about the children he taught, he was such an inspiration to my son. Many times he spent holidays with Phil at his camps, had private lessons during lockdown which saved Ralph's fitness!

A few weeks ago Phil came along to our street party. He shared a few glasses of bubbles with us. We talked about what we would do if we won the lottery. Phil said, "I wouldn't change anything, I'd just take more holidays with my family." Phil has inspired me in so many ways. to find what I love and dedicate my life to it, just like he did. Phil was always friendly and easy to talk to. I loved the way he took the time to encourage my children and how relaxed he made my son feel. who was so nervous when he first started but Phil worked his charm and brought some confidence out in him. He would come home and say 'look mum, look what Phil taught me to do' with every new skill he learnt. We will fondly remember his smile and his passion for teaching the children his love of football. I would like to say as a family stay strong and remember the best times.

My family are sorry for your loss and sends our condolences to you all.

R.I.P Mr Phil Walker, long may your memory live on. xxx

Phil Walker Football School

Message:

I met Phil when I was 3 years old as a little player who joined his skills school in Wimbledon. His support, kindness, and care for me as for each player helped me integrate to the team and develop my football skills. Outside the field and whenever myself or family meet him, he is always loving, positive, and smiling.

May you rest in peace captain Philip.

Love from Adam and parents Farah & Alaa.
